You could also create a new panel, place your banner info there then add %%panel.panelname%% to you category layout.

Hard to say what the problem is without looking at the code. If you want to re-implement it, I can take a look.

The drawback with the code I posted is that when you use 'click' to activate, the top level category cannot be selected (open a new page). Javascript is not my forte so I have been in contact with other developers to see if they can find a solution. I'll post here if we come up with something.

It would also be helpful to know where you are seeing that error message. If it is on a particular page, can you include a screen shot? There is another person reporting a similar problem.

For what it is worth, Ray at Interspire told me that they are in the process of re-writing the variation system. I would guess this is a V5.5 or V6.0 release. When this happens, I truly hope that there is a utility converts the current variation system to the new one. As for modules, you are right. ...

Thanks for responding everyone. We are going to create a new Discount Rule via the Promotions page. Along the lines of how the rules work now, there will be a new option ... Spend $X and get x number of a [select a product] product free. I'll let you know how it goes.

They are on 5.05. A new requirement is that not only is there a free item to be included but there is a second free item if their order subtotal is more than X dollars. I feel like I have seen something like this but just cant place it.
